27 Badass Names for an Akita

badass names for an akita

One of the first challenges when it comes to owning a dog is giving it a name. The essence of a name is to identify the dog and let it know when you are calling it. When I got my first Akita, I didn’t want to go with a common name. I wanted a name that would be fitting for my Akita’s burly and intimidating stature. If you are anything like me and you are looking for badass names for an Akita, I have created a list of 27 suggestions to help you.

27 Badass Names for an Akita

The following are some of the badass names for Akitas that I could come up with:

  1. Pepper
  2. Loris
  3. Amber
  4. Crusher
  5. Spark
  6. Saber
  7. Magnum
  8. Bolt
  9. Wolverine
  10. Khan
  11. Blitz
  12. Flash
  13. Stark
  14. Spunky
  15. Stubby
  16. Lex
  17. Leo
  18. Ludolf
  19. Gunter
  20. Rolf
  21. Callan
  22. Noob
  23. Toril
  24. Caesar
  25. Zhen
  26. Wafi
  27. Raph

Pepper

One of the badass names you can give to your Akita is “Pepper”. Why pepper? Because pepper is spicy (although not all) and an important ingredient in quite a lot of recipes. You can use that to identify how important your Akita is to your family and the fact that it can be aggressive when it needs to be.

Loris

I added Loris to this list not because it is a common name for dogs but because I like the sound of it. Then, I found out that the name belongs to South American primates that are very active at night. Kaboom. Akitas are known to be good guard dogs and you can expect them to watch over you and your family while y’all sleep.

Amber

Just like Loris, I liked Amber cause I thought it was a cute name for a really crazy person. I’ll recommend Amber as a badass name for a female Akita. Or if you have a bright-colored dog, this name can be best suited for it.

Crusher

I first heard the name Crusher for a dog when I visited Nigeria. I asked the pet parent what their idea for giving it the name Crusher was and they said because of how frequently they get intruders in the vicinity, they needed a dog that could protect the household and they had to give it a befitting name. The dog was a Pitbull but since it is about protection, I think you can name your Akita “Crusher” too

Spark

Spark is a good way to name an Akita and that’s because they are very energetic dogs. Whether you want to name them Sparky, Sparkle, or Sparkles, an Akita is going to live up to its name in this light providing the entire family with so much energy, it is hard to deny.

Saber

Another crazy name for an Akita is Saber. I absolutely love this one because it refers to a heavy Cavalry sword. When you think of pre medieval times where swords were an essential piece of combat, you can understand why this name is badass. Another important thing to note is that a saber only has one sharp edge. Your Akita will be aggressive and friendly when it needs to be, which is why Saber is a good name for it.

Magnum

I discovered that the term “Magnum” is used to refer to a gun that is designed to fire cartridges that are more powerful than its caliber suggests. Do you know what that means?

A .357 Magnum cartridge is more powerful than a .38 Special cartridge even though they have the same diameter bullet. In simpler terms, Magnum guns are designed to handle the increased pressure and recoil of these powerful cartridges.

That’s typical of your Akita. They may look like standard, lovely dogs but they can withstand some level of hardness and show courage when the need arises.

Bolt

When Disney released Bolt the dog movie, every American home wanted to have a dog like it – not in appearance alone but because of some of the superpowers that the dog had in the movie. I saw that movie and I wished my dog was Bolt too. Bolt is a good name for an Akita due to the fact that some Akitas may share near resemblance with the animated character in terms of ear shape, fur, and tail (Bolt has a long, furry tail but the Akita’s tail is curved).

Wolverine

X-men was where I got the inspiration for this name. Wolverine is a tough name for a dog and if you’ve watched the TV show, you’ll agree. However, the idea behind Wolverine as a name for an Akita is not because of toughness alone but selflessness. Like Wolverine, your Akita is willing to stick its neck out to those it loves.

Khan

The inspiration for Khan as a badass name for your Akita comes from Genghis Khan, the Mongolian chieftain that captured significant parts of China and Central Asia. His victories showed his vision and tenacity which is something your Akita is going to have if properly trained

Blitz

Akitas were bred as hunting dogs so you can expect them to be fast which is why Blitz is a good name for your furry companion. The name Blitz comes from the German word Blitzer which means lightning significant of how fast your Akita will be

Flash

Another good name for your Akita is Flash. I watched the TV series “Flash” and I immediately wanted to give that name to my dog. If it is something you fancy, then you can go ahead. It is a cute name for an Akita too.

Stark

You’ll have to pardon my desire to name dogs from movie titles and characters. After watching Game of Thrones, I was fascinated by the family of Eddard Stark (Ned Stark) and I felt since they have a deep heritage, just like the Akita from its time in Japan, it’d be a good name for Akitas. The good thing about Stark as a name for an Akita is its uniqueness and rarity.

Spunky

Spunky comes from two words that embody two essential characteristics of an Akita: bravery and high spiritedness. When an Akita is with their family or someone they love, you’ll expect them to be playful and full of energy.

Although they can be calm if they want to, they exude a level of high spiritedness that’s become a trademark of their personality. Also, they’ve got the fight in them and bravery in facing other dogs and intruders is common to them.

Stubby

When you consider how thick your Akita’s fur is and its short, curly tail, you know why Stubby would be a great name for it. Other variations of this name for your dog could be Stub, Stubbie, or Stubbies.

Lex

You may remember supervillain Lex Luthor in Superman. Well, I am not saying you should turn your dog into Superman’s nemesis. I did some digging and found out that Lex has a unique meaning. It is from Greek origin and it means defender of men

Your Akita, aside from being a companion, would defend you if you train it to do so. This makes Lex a good name for an Akita

Leo

If you guessed I got this name from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, then you are not wrong. Leonardo from TMNT is not often considered the strongest of the turtles but he has an admirable way of thinking that’s structured and may be considered rigid. This is something that’s evident in Akitas. They are aggressive but they can think for themselves. In essence, they are independent thinkers and may even feel like deciding for their humans when they feel their humans do not know the right thing to do.

Ludolf

I’ve met a couple of German dog owners and their naming systems for pets is nothing like we see in America. Ludolf is one of those names I heard from a German pet parent. I didn’t just love how the name sounds but the meaning was lovely too. Ludolf means famous wolf and I could only imagine the air of mystery one will experience when they get to call their Akita in public with a name like Ludolf or Ludolph.

Gunter

Gunter is another name for Akitas from German descent although there are claims of it having Scandinavian roots. I picked interest in Gunter (or Gunther) because of how it sounded but then the meaning shows it is really badass. Gunter means battle warrior which would be a good choice if you already consider your Akita a feisty pet.

Rolf

Both for its pronunciation and meaning, Rolf is without doubt a good, badass name for your dog. There are claims the name means glory but I found out that Rolf means wolf and that’s what I am sticking to.

Callan

Another name that captures the brave and aggressive side of an Akita is Callan. The name means powerful in battle and if you take a historical look at Akitas, you’ll observe that they were used for dog fights and even though it is illegal in the US, in Japan, Akitas are still used for fights.

Noob

Noob Saibot is a Mortal Kombat character and there are two reasons why I feel Noob can be the perfect name for your Akita

First, Noob’s appearance is unique with his jet black skin and glowing white eyes which is quite descriptive of some Akita breeds.

Secondly, Noob mastered the element of ice just like an Akita can withstand cold weather.

If I ever get an Akita that’s all black, Noob is gonna be its name.

Toril

Before I decided on Toril, I wanted to go with Thilo but I felt the latter wasn’t tough enough. Toril which means thunder works well if you need to give your Akita a name that is just like Bolt or Blitz. I like Toril because it doesn’t sound badass but it really has the feel when you understand its meaning.

Caesar

Caesar is a strong and powerful name that can suit an Akita well. The name can evoke images of a mighty ruler, which can be fitting for a dog that is known for its strength and dominance. It will interest you to know that Akitas generally exert dominance over other dogs which makes Caesar as an Akita’s name worth it.

Zhen

Another name I’ll gladly recommend to an Akita owner is Zhen. The name is short and snappy and can work well for a male Akita. Zhen has a strong and assertive sound to it, which can match the dog’s bold personality.

Wafi

Wafi is an unusual and exotic name that can make your Akita stand out from the crowd. The name means “loyal” in Arabic, which is a fitting description for a dog that is known for its loyalty and devotion.

Raph

While I think Leo from TMNT is a cooler dude than Raph, It is hard to deny that Raph was the strongest of the turtles. Raph is a short and catchy name that can work well for an Akita in terms of its power and reliability. The name has a friendly and approachable ring to it, making it an ideal name for a dog that you want to befriend easily.
